Instructions

  • Break or chop the dark chocolate into small pieces.
  • Heat lactose-free milk in a saucepan until almost boiling point (approx. 65 ᵒC).
  • Remove the pan from the heat and stir the chocolate into the hot milk until completely dissolved.
  • Pour it into 2 tall glasses or mugs.
  • Divide mini marshmallows on top. If they are large, cut them into small pieces first.
Enjoy!
Tips

You can use different marshmallows depending on what flavour you like. If you just want regular sweetness, opt for classic vanilla marshmallows. But you can also go for flavoured varieties that will, when melted, slowly give off other flavours like exotic, fruity coconut or fresh mint.

Questions about lactose-free hot chocolate

Any questions you might have, we have the answers to. Continue reading below to find out everything you need about making hot chocolate.

How to make lactose-free hot chocolate thicker?
If you want your lactose-free hot chocolate thicker, increase the amount of dark chocolate relative to the milk or use less milk. You can go for one with a higher cocoa percentage, which will also thicken the drink. This will, in turn, make its flavour bolder and more intense.
How to make lactose-free hot chocolate smoother?
To ensure a smooth and creamy consistency, chop the chocolate finely and uniformly. It will melt more easily and evenly. Add the chocolate gradually instead of all at once. Stir until it melts and incorporates fully in the milk and continue adding more until everything is melted. If it is still not completely smooth, consider using a whisk or immersion blender.
How to make lactose-free hot chocolate with dark chocolate?
Dark chocolate is an important part of this recipe, as this is what adds a bold flavour and thickens it. Mixing it with warm milk is a slow and meticulous process. Make sure that you are constantly stirring, allowing it to melt slowly and gradually. For a bitter, less-sweet flavour, choose dark chocolate with a higher cocoa percentage. For a sweeter flavour, go for a less dark type. Bear in mind that this will also affect the consistency, making it thinner.
