Tips

After baking it to golden perfection, give it a few minutes to rest before slicing. Allowing it to settle helps the filling set, making it easier to cut without it crumbling or falling apart. This moment of patience ensures that each slice retains its shape and integrity, ready to be savoured.

Tips

While quiche can be enjoyed straight from the oven or chilled from the fridge, serving it at room temperature brings out the best in its flavours and texture. Allowing it to come to room temperature allows the delicate flavours to fully develop, melding together harmoniously. Additionally, serving the cheese quiche at room temperature makes it a breeze to transport for picnics or outdoor gatherings.

How to make cheese quiche?
Indulging in a cheese quiche with its flaky, buttery crust and creamy, cheesy filling is simply irresistible, and it is both simple and quick to make. Make the crust, combining flour and butter until the mixture resembles crumbs. Add water and shape it into a dough. Press the dough into an ovenproof quiche pan, and let it chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes, then bake it in a preheated oven for 10 minutes. Prepare the filling, pour into the pre-baked crust, and bake at 200°C for approx. 25 minutes.
What to serve with cheese quiche?
In our recipe, we suggest pairing it with a refreshing side of mixed green salad. However, there are more ways to serve cheese quiche. For example, a platter of vegetables like carrot sticks, cucumber slices, bell pepper strips, and cherry tomatoes served with a dip such as hummus or a creamy dressing is a delicious option. For a picnic, go for finger sandwiches, and for a BBQ night, serve with freshly grilled meat, skewers, or fish. And, lastly, you never go wrong with a slice of bread.
How long will cheese quiche last?
The shelf life of a cheese quiche depends on how it is stored, and the ingredients used. As it includes cheese, milk, and eggs, it is generally recommended not to leave it at room temperature for more than 2 hours to maintain freshness. Stored in the fridge, it can typically last for about 3-5 days. Cover the quiche tightly with plastic wrap or place it in an airtight container to prevent it from drying out or absorbing odours from other foods in the refrigerator.
Can you freeze cheese quiche?
Yes, you can freeze cheese quiche to enjoy it later. Allow it to cool completely at room temperature to prevent condensation and ice crystals from forming during freezing. Then, wrap tightly in plastic wrap, and for an extra layer of protection, wrap the plastic-wrapped quiche in aluminium foil to guard against freezer burn and moisture loss. It can last in the freezer for about 2 months when properly stored. When you are ready to enjoy the cheese quiche, thaw it in the refrigerator overnight to maintain its texture and flavour. To reheat, preheat the oven to a low temperature, around 160°C, and place it on a baking sheet or oven-safe dish. Heat it until it is heated through, ensuring an even reheating process. Avoid using the microwave, as it may result in a soggy crust.

Experiment with the ingredients

Part of the joy of making a cheese quiche is the ability to experiment with different ingredients, adding unique flavours and textures to create a personalised delight. By combining various ingredients with cheese, you can create endless flavour combinations that will delight your taste buds. Here are a few examples to inspire your creativity.

Ham and cheese quiche

The savoury flavour combination of a ham and cheese quiche is a classic and delicious choice that adds an extra layer of depth to the dish. By incorporating diced or chopped cooked ham, you introduce a delightful contrast of textures and flavours. Ham brings a satisfying saltiness and smoky essence that pairs harmoniously with the creamy, melted cheese. You can experiment with different types of ham, such as smoked ham or honey-glazed ham, to customise the flavour profile to your liking. Besides the added flavour and texture, the addition of ham transforms the quiche into a hearty and substantial meal, making it an excellent option for any time of the day.

Onion and cheese quiche

For an added sweet and rich flavour, try an onion and cheese quiche combination. Consider sautéing or caramelising the onions before adding them to the filling. This will ensure that they are soft, tender, and full of flavour. You can experiment with different types of onions, such as yellow onions, red onions, or even shallots, to create unique flavour profiles. Caramelised onions bring a touch of sweetness which creates a delightful contrast to the savoury cheese and eggs. The caramelisation process intensifies their natural sugars, resulting in a deep, golden-brown colour and a rich, slightly sweet flavour. These different options make an onion and cheese quiche a versatile and savoury option with perfectly complementing flavours.

Bacon and cheese quiche

For a smoky addition to the creamy base, try a bacon and cheese quiche. The combination of crispy bacon and a melted, gooey cheese filling makes it rich, smoky, and simply irresistible. The bacon adds a satisfying crunch that contrasts beautifully with the smooth and creamy texture of the cheese custard, and its smoky, savoury essence adds a rich and robust taste, elevating the overall profile of the dish. The combination of the salty, umami notes from the bacon and the tanginess of the cheese creates a symphony of flavours that is pure indulgence.
