Chicken soup
Do you cook the noodles before adding them to the chicken soup?
We don’t recommend cooking the noodles separately and then adding them to the soup. Firstly, you run the risk of overcooking them and end up serving a soup with mushy noodles. Secondly, by cooking the noodles in the broth you let the noodles absorb some of its savoury goodness. This will give you a soup full of well-integrated flavours, as opposed to a tasty broth with unflavoured noodles.
How can I make my chicken soup taste better?
Chicken noodle soup is a truly versatile dish that you can tweak in almost any direction to make it reflect your favourite cuisine. You can hardly go wrong when adding the spices, herbs, and veggies that you like. If you want an Asian, ramen-like twist, try adding garlic, soy, and rice vinegar to the soup. Tomatoes, garlic, and herbs like oregano and basil will give your soup an Italian touch. Other ingredients that you can use to spice up your chicken soup are ginger, chilli, lime, and coriander. Our last tip is to swap the leaner chicken breast fillets with deboned chicken thighs. This will need a little longer to cook, approximately 45 minutes, but it will add an extra depth of flavour to every steaming bite.
How do I store leftovers?
Spoon any leftovers into an air-tight container and refrigerate for up to four days. Remember that the ingredients, especially the noodles, will continue to soften with each passing day and the texture of the soup will, as a result, be different to the original batch.

Craving some comfort food? This recipe is the perfect starting point for a lifetime of adventures with chicken noodle soup.
Chicken soup: simple, delicious and warming
Homely comfort food that is quick and easy to make. Yes, chicken noodle soup is all these things. Packed with veggies, it is the perfect pick-me-up meal to stay warm on a chilly winter day. Made in under an hour with simple ingredients, chicken noodle soup easily becomes a family favourite. Just make sure to use good-quality chicken broth or bouillon cubes, as this determines much of the soup's flavour. Also, experiment with ingredients that you love, such as different veggies and herbs, to make your own version.
How to make your chicken soup extra creamy
There are several ways to add creaminess to your chicken noodle soup. The most obvious way is to add cream or sour cream towards the end of cooking. A more advanced method is to create a thickening roux in the pot before adding the broth. Simply add about a tablespoon of butter and an equal amount of all-purpose flour to the pot while sauteing the chicken and veg. Wait a couple of minutes, then add the broth and let the soup simmer until thickened and creamy. Feel free to add milk, cream, or sour cream for even more creaminess.
Serving suggestions
Few things go as well with chicken noodle soup as hearty slices of freshly baked bread and you can't go wrong with a classic French baguette, sourdough or the nutty flavours of rye. A light salad is also a popular choice, as is roasted vegetables or a fluffy baked potato. Soup toppings can include anything from a dollop of creamy yoghurt or crispy bacon crumbles to fresh herbs or grated parmesan cheese.
