Instructions

Crust
  • Mix wheat flour, wholemeal flour, and salt in a bowl.
  • Cut butter into small pieces and crumble it into the flour. Knead the dough by adding water a little at a time.
  • Press the dough into a greased pie tin (about 22 cm diameter), making sure it is firmly pressed against the rim.
  • Pre-bake the base for 15 minutes at 200°C (traditional oven) in the middle of the oven.
Filling
  • Spread salmon, leeks, and dill on the pre-baked bottom.
  • Beat lactose-free crème fraiche, eggs, lactose-free milk, salt, and pepper and pour the mixture over the filling.
  • Bake the pie at 200°C (traditional oven) in the middle of the oven for about 30 minutes.
  • Serve the pie hot or cold with, for example, a fresh, green salad.
Enjoy!
Tip

To ensure a flaky and tender crust, work with cold ingredients when making the dough. As you cut the cold butter into the flour, small pockets of fat remain intact, creating layers that contribute to the flakiness of the crust.

What to serve with salmon pie?
Fish pie with salmon is a versatile dish that goes well with a variety of sides. Vegetables, in particular, are a fantastic choice and offer plenty of options. Take your salmon fish pie to the next level by serving it with a refreshing green salad dressed in a light vinaigrette. This side will provide a nice contrast to the rich fish pie. Alternatively, add a satisfying crunch and a tangy twist to your plate with a crunchy coleslaw.
Can you freeze salmon pie?
If you have leftovers, or just want a convenient dinner option, you can freeze salmon pie. To freeze it, make sure it has cooled down to room temperature after baking to prevent condensation and the formation of ice crystals. Wrap the entire salmon pie tightly using plastic wrap or aluminium foil, ensuring it is well-covered to protect against freezer burn and exposure to air. This will help maintain its moisture and flavour while in the freezer.
Can I reheat salmon pie?
Yes, you can reheat salmon pie. Reheating it properly will help bring back its delicious flavours. If it has been frozen, first thaw it in the refrigerator overnight or for several hours until completely thawed. It ensures even heating during the reheating process. Reheat the salmon pie in the oven or the microwave until it is heated through. The time needed may vary depending on the size and thickness of the pie, so keep an eye on it.
