Choose quality minced meat

The flavour and texture of your soup depend on the minced meat you use. Opt for lean meat to prevent excess fat, which can overpower the soup. A combination of beef and pork offers a balanced and nuanced taste.

Pick the best potatoes

If you want a creamy base, starchy potatoes like Russets are the way to go, as they break down during cooking. You can also use King Edward potatoes in minced meat soup for a naturally thickened texture. Their floury consistency softens as they cook, helping to absorb the broth while maintaining some shape.

Get a creamier texture

To get a thicker, creamier consistency, mash some of the potatoes directly in the soup while they cook, since this will naturally thicken the broth. Alternatively, create a cornstarch slurry by mixing cornstarch with cold water, then stir it into the soup at the end for a smooth finish.

Warm and hearty minced meat soup with vegetables

There is something so comforting about a pot of minced meat soup bubbling away on the stove. A rich and creamy broth, paired with a mix of vegetables and hearty minced meat, makes every spoonful a delight.

It warms you up from the inside out, making it ideal for cold days or when you need a little pick-me-up. Once you try it, you might find yourself craving it no matter the time of year.

Aromatic notes from paprika and rosemary

Paprika and rosemary are the secret weapons in this soup. Paprika adds warmth and depth without stealing the show, while rosemary ties the flavours together with its fresh and herbaceous, pine-like aroma. These two ingredients create a base that is comforting and packed with character – exactly what you want for your minced meat soup.

Deliciously creamy with tangy tomatoes

The cream and tomatoes work together to give the soup its smooth, velvety texture. You often see chunky tomatoes in soups, but to really hammer home the creaminess, we have added smooth, crushed tomatoes. This delectable pairing brings the soup to life, with the cream mellowing the tang of the tomatoes, and the tomatoes adding sharpness to balance out the deep flavours of the meat and vegetables.

Minced meat soup really does have something for everyone. Kids will love the flavourful but mild ingredients, while adults can enjoy the well-balanced seasoning and the comfort of a homemade meal. It is delicious on its own, but serving freshly baked bread on the side makes it even better.

Experiment with your own variations

Find the ingredients to make minced meat soup your own. Adjust the seasoning to your liking by adding more black pepper for a gentle, warming spice or thyme for its earthy notes. Bay leaves can bring a delicate herbal aroma that seeps into the soup as it cooks. If you want a fresh twist, basil is known for its light, slightly sweet flavour, while oregano has that warm, peppery kick that works beautifully with the tomatoes.

For an extra savoury touch, brown the minced meat with garlic and a splash of Worcestershire sauce. The garlic offers a bold, nutty edge, but Worcestershire sauce has an exciting umami flavour that goes well with the rich meat.

You can also customise the recipe by adding more vegetables. Courgette brings in a soft, subtle sweetness, while spinach blends into the broth, offering a fresh and vibrant contrast. Carrots contribute their natural sweetness and fun texture, creating a more layered soup.
